EPFM will observe Ash Wednesday Service tonight at 7:00 pm in the Chapel. All are welcome as we begin the season of Lent together!
----- More on Ash Wednesday... In
Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the first day, or the start
of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are
not included in the count). Lent
is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period
of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. During
some Ash Wednesday services, the minister will lightly rub the sign of
the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers. The
Bible does not mention Ash Wednesday or the custom of Lent, however,
the practice of repentance and mourning in ashes is found in 2 Samuel 13:19; Esther 4:1; Job 2:8; Daniel 9:3; and Matthew 11:21. --- Read more at The General Board of Discipleship | Ash Wednesday

Join us on Sunday, January 15, for a special worship experience commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Chancel Choir will lead us in song as we sing anthems of the modern Civil Rights Movement, the Youth & Children's Choir will offer a special selection and our Assistant Pastor, Min. Victor Cyrus-Franklin will preach.
We will also collect a special offering for Human Relations Sunday, which supports vital community ministries that teach and advocate for justice, especially among people struggling to survive in the margins of society.
EPFM's unique story is a testimony of God's power to transform racial barriers into bridges of love, justice and reconciliation. Join us as we celebrate the call to unity and justice for all God's children. You will be blessed!

Join us for worship on Sunday, January 8th at 11:00 am as we welcome guest preacher, the Rev. Dr. Charles Adams who will share a message on what it means to make disciples for Jesus Christ. Dr. Adams is the Superintendent of Epworth by the Sea, a Christian Conference and Retreat Center in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
---
Epworth By The Sea proudly serves a diversity of groups, individuals, denominations, private and government agencies, Armed Services, civic organizations and others whose goals are consistent with Epworth's mission, which is to provide a Christian place for worship, study and fellowship.
Epworth By The Sea is named in honor of the boyhood home of John and Charles Wesley, founders of Methodism. In 1784, John Wesley tenderly recalled his home by writing in his famous journal, "I rode to Epworth, which I still love beyond most places in the world." Though he is said to have ridden 250,000 miles and preached 45,000 sermons, Epworth still held his heart. Visit Epworth's website to learn more about this retreat center's ministry whose mission is " to provide a Christian place for worship, study and fellowship." |
